Installation

INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE

1. INSTALL AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY

(a) Check that the engine switch (for Gasoline Model) or power switch (for HV Model) is off.

(b) Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

CAUTION:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Install the airbag ECU assembly with the 3 bolts.

Torque:

17.5 N·m {178 kgf·cm, 13 ft·lbf}

NOTICE:

  • Temporarily tighten the 2 bolts in the order of (A), (B) and then fully tighten the 3 bolts in the order of (C), (A) and (B).
  • If the airbag ECU assembly has been dropped, or there are any cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace it with a new one.
  • When installing the airbag ECU assembly, make sure that the wire harness does not interfere with other parts and is not pinched.
  • When the engine switch (for Gasoline Model) or power switch (for HV Model) is first turned on (IG) after the airbag ECU assembly has been replaced, make sure that no one is in the vehicle.

(d) Temporarily connect the connector and then move the lock lever in the direction indicated by the arrow to securely connect the connectors.

NOTICE:

When connecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

(e) Check that there is no looseness in the installed parts of the airbag ECU assembly.

2. INSTALL NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX DUCT

(a) Install the No. 1 console box duct with the clip as shown in the illustration.

3. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR CARPET ASSEMBLY

(a) Install the front floor carpet assembly to its original position as shown in the illustration.

(b) Engage the 2 guides.

(c) Install the 3 front floor carpet clips.

(d) Install the front floor carpet assembly to its original position as shown in the illustration.

(e) Engage the 2 guides.

(f) Install the 3 front floor carpet clips.

(a) When the airbag ECU assembly is replaced, perform zero point learning for the yaw rate and acceleration sensor.

HINT:

The yaw rate and acceleration sensor is built into the airbag ECU assembly.

On-vehicle Inspection

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

CAUTION:

Be sure to correctly follow the removal and installation procedures for the airbag ECU assembly.

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY (for Vehicle not Involved in Collision)

(a) Perform a diagnostic system check.

2. INSPECT AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY (for Vehicle Involved in Collision and Airbag not Deployed)

(a) Perform a diagnostic system check.

(b) Visually check for defects with the airbag ECU assembly installed to the vehicle.

HINT:

The defects are as follows:

  • Cracks in the ECU housing
  • Dents in the ECU housing
  • Chips in the ECU housing
  • Cracks or other damage to the connectors
  • Peeling of the label

OK:

No defects are found.

If any defects are found, replace the airbag ECU assembly with a new one.

3. INSPECT AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY (for Vehicle Involved in Collision and Airbag is Deployed)

(a) Replace the airbag ECU assembly.

HINT:

The airbag ECU assembly should be replaced after any of the SRS parts has deployed, as it has been subjected to an impact.

Replacement of the airbag ECU assembly

  1. Clear zero point calibration data
  2. Perform yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point calibration

  • ABS warning light illuminates
  • Brake warning light / yellow (minor malfunction) illuminates
  • Slip indicator light illuminates
  • VSC disabled or malfunctions

After turning the engine switch (for Gasoline Model) or power switch (for HV Model) off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. 25. DISCONNECT FRONT FLOOR CARPET ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the front floor carpet clip.

(b) Remove the 2 front floor carpet clips.

(c) Disengage the 2 guides and turn back the front floor carpet assembly as shown in the illustration.

(d) Remove the front floor carpet clip.

(e) Remove the 2 front floor carpet clips.

(f) Disengage the 2 guides and turn back the front floor carpet assembly as shown in the illustration.

26. REMOVE NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX DUCT

(a) Remove the clip.

Remove in this Direction

(b) Remove the No. 1 console box duct as shown in the illustration.

27. REMOVE AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY

(a) Check that the engine switch (for Gasoline Model) or power switch (for HV Model) is off.

(b) Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

CAUTION:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Push down the part (A) in the direction indicated by the arrow (1) to release the lock, and then move the lock lever in the direction indicated by the arrow (2) shown in the illustration to disconnect the connectors.

NOTICE:

When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

(d) Remove the 3 bolts and airbag ECU assembly.
